Architect: Lacey Hickey Caley
Project Value: £2 Million
The Centre for Renewable Energy Education and Display in Delabole, Cornwall, is a new 2000 m2 development located on the edge of the first commercial wind farm in the U.K.
The building provides exhibition space for a hands-on, interactive exhibition, teaching areas, resource library, a cafe/shop, and a 240 seat auditorium for conferences, trade fairs, performances and community events.
As the Employers Representatives for the mechanical and electrical services installation Silcock Dawson & Partners developed the design brief to make maximum use of sustainable and renewable energy including electrical power drawn, whenever possible, from the adjacent wind farm.
Features include solar panels as the primary source of heating for the domestic hot water services, grey water system recycling rainwater for flushing of toilets, and mains water supplied from a borehole within the grounds, filtered and UV treated for general use.
