Project: Clifton College, Percival Library
Client: Clifton College Public School
Architect: Nichols Brown Webber
Project Value: £500,000
Silcock Dawson was appointed on the sensitive refurbishment of the Percival Library, a magnificent Grade II Listed Gothic building, dating from the 1870's. The aim of the project, undertaken for clients Clifton College Public School, was to create a modern learning resources centre at the heart of the school, whilst retaining all the character of the existing structure.
Architects Nichols Brown Webber's design brought the Percival Library into the 21st Century by successfully integrating computer rooms and other IT learning facilities into the stunning Victorian Gothic structure.
Modern services including new heating, power, data and security were installed.
Silcock Dawson brought their considerable knowledge to bear on the project with reference to the design of a discrete lighting scheme, installed to enhance the overall appearance of the building, particularly its impressive hammer beam roof. Data links and improved lighting were added to desks in alcoves and shelving was redesigned and serviced to better relate to the setting.
Heating/cooling systems were introduced to service associated IT learning areas.
All works were undertaken whilst the remainder of the School was in use and were completed on time and within budget.
