Project: Chelmsley Wood Retail Centre, Solihull
Client: Fordgate Ltd
Architect: Barton Wilmore Partnership
Services Value: £500,000
Project Value: £35 Million
Phase I of this project, which was completed this summer, involved the redevelopment and extension of the existing Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre in Solihull to accommodate a new key store for ASDA and a new library and offices for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
Providing the detailed design of all M&E services for architects Barton Willmore, Silcock Dawson also co-ordinated significant statutory authority enabling works for this project.
With a services value of £500,000, work on the fit-out of the new library and Council offices began in July 2009. Silcock Dawson also provided M&E design services for the fit out of SMBC Connect, library and offices for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
There are plans for the future development of two further non-food retail outlets, plus the refurbishment of the present mall area, officially opened in 1971 by the Queen and Prince Philip. However, no specific date has been set for this and timescales will be dependent on the availability of funding. When the time comes, Silcock Dawson will be on hand to assist the developer, Fordgate Midlands Properties, to smoothly redevelop existing areas of the centre, while extending into new development.
The redevelopment of the town centre forms part of a 15 year, £1 Billion regeneration programme, led by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council in the north of the borough, which will transform not just the physical environment but also housing, education and health and represents one of the biggest regeneration projects in Britain.
