New Era Development, the Sheffield-based company behind this landmark project, and their Chinese investors, have created a development which is "a significant inward investment for the Sheffield City Region" according to their Managing Director Jerry Cheung.
Construction of the development commenced in 2015, comprising shops, food and drink outlets and a two-level Chinese supermarket. Student communal facilities including a gymnasium and media rooms, as well as 408 student bedrooms, 12 serviced apartments and 2 penthouses completed phase 1 of the build.
Due to complete in summer 2020, phase 2 of the development comprises a further 240 en-suite student bedrooms, ground floor commercial and retails spaces, and a seven-storey state of the art multi-tenanted office accommodation building.
An energy efficient building services design has been adopted on this scheme, alongside a high standard of building fabric construction, achieving 5 percent energy improvement on the Council's target benchmark applicable at the initial planning stage and 10 percent contribution to the overall demand from renewable technologies via the use of CHP plant. The project has also been designed to achieve a BREEAM 'very-good' rating.
Silcock Dawson were involved during the planning stage, continuing with performance design duties and construction monitoring.
